The BBGV would like to announce 14 BBGV Board members for 2020/21 as below. The BBGV Annual General Meeting AGM was held on Tuesday, 2nd June with total of 35 members attending at Le Meridien Saigon in HCMC and Hilton Opera Hotel in Hanoi. A report of BBGV affairs and activities over the past year, including the Chamber, Business Centre, and Charity was presented to members. A financial review of 2019/20 and the budget of 2020/21 were given to members.

We would also like to announce the results of the election for the BBGV Board in FY20/21 as follows:

I have worked in Vietnam for nearly 10 years since joining British University Vietnam. I have been heavily involved within BBGV for that time, based in Hanoi. Developing and launching the British Education Business Group as well as establishing the Hanoi Fun Run now in its 5th Year as well as the inter company football tournament, Meet the UK with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well visits by provincial chairmen to the UK. I presently sit on the Board of Vietnam Business Forum as the BBGV Representative. I was elected to the position of Chair of BBGV in 2019 after serving as Vice-Chair in Hanoi and along with colleagues worked to transition BBGV to develop more of an advocacy role in light of BREXIT as well as transition the organization for changes in Business Centre funding from the UK Government as well as supporting closer ties to the Embassy/Consulate/British Council to have a one UK stance benefiting the wider community and especially British business and business that works with or trades with the UK.


Alexander is Managing Director of ECCO Vietnam Ltd and is responsible for the wholly-owned production operations of the Danish brand in Vietnam.

Alexander joined ECCO in early 2016 following 8 years as founder of sustainable fashion garment manufacturer Vert Company in Northern Vietnam.

Alexander has a broad range of experience at Managing Director level in the fashion and footwear sector along with turn-key project completion, supply chain management and stakeholder communication. 

Alexander has a pan-European background and is multi-lingual. He is of dual British/German nationality though born and raised in Switzerland. He has lived in the UK, Spain, and for the past 12 years, in Vietnam. Alexander is married to Thuy and has one daughter.


Ms. Judith Henry has 17 years’ experience in professional services firms and multi-national companies.

In current role at PwC Judith is responsible for representing PwC in the local market, developing relationships with people working in finance and using those relationships to win work for PwC. Her experience of doing this in the Ho Chi Minh market makes her well suited to a role with BBGV, which requires her to drive and promote Vietnam-UK investment.

As the strategic partnership between the UK and Vietnam marks its 10th anniversary, she is looking forward to working as part of BBGV to support their initiatives that will continue to strengthen this important alliance.

Her professional background and previous experience of running a charity in the UK make her suited to contributing to the Charity, Finance and Events sub-committees.

Posted to BP China as Finance Manager then relocated to BP Vietnam in 1990 makes Rick likely the longest Brit in Vietnam.

5. KENNETH M ATKINSON – Board Member

Ken Atkinson started his career in international banking and after 14 years, including assignments in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, he set up his own consultancy business.

With over 45 years emerging market experience and 42 years Asian experience, Ken has undertaken corporate finance transactions in many emerging markets worldwide (Eastern Europe, the People’s Republic of China and several other countries in South East Asia).

Ken has been working almost exclusively in Vietnam, Cambodia and Lao PDR during the last 29 years.
He has broad experience in advising Clients including commercial banks on project appraisal, debt finance, loan restructuring, corporate restructuring and equity funding.

Ken has also accepted receiverships from the High Court of the BVI and also acted on behalf of court appointed receivers, in both manufacturing and real estate sectors

6. PAUL CLEVES – Board Member

I have lived and worked in Vietnam since 1995 in various capacities but always working with small organisations and enterprises. As such I feel I understand and can represent the interests of small businesses and entrepreneurs on the board of the BBGV. As an importer and exporter I am very much in favour of an early UK-Vietnam FTA and in the post Brexit world we occupy the role of the BBGV in trade matters will be more important than it has ever been before. In my former period of service on the Board I served on the Social committee and on the Charity committee. I sense that many BBGV members would like to see the social side of the BBGV reinvigorated and I shall be pleased to contribute my time to that or whatever needs of the BBGV I can serve best.

7. DENZEL EADES – Board Member

Denzel is the co-founder and Managing Director of Pioneer International Consulting (PIC) and manages the firm’s offices in Hanoi and Singapore.

PIC advises on investment into and the development of renewable energy in Vietnam, with a particular focus on onshore and offshore wind and expertise in project structuring, planning and development. The firm is currently advising UK and regional developers in relation to offshore wind projects in the South of Vietnam and is engaged with the UK Department of Trade and Industry team in Hanoi on initiatives and training with respect to Vietnam’s national grid.

Denzel has over 17 years of experience working with both global financial institutions and leading law firms in both Europe and Asia. He previously worked with Clifford Chance LLP and during a 10 year career with the firm worked in London, Moscow, Tokyo and Bangkok.

He moved to Asia in 2008 and was based in Hanoi from 2010 to 2012, whilst seconded from Clifford Chance to VILAF. He subsequently worked in the global project finance team at MUFG Bank in Tokyo and with HSBC in Hong Kong. During his 5 years with HSBC he focused on Asia infrastructure and project finance and later distressed debt, advising on cross border insolvency and special situations.

Denzel is originally from the Isle of Wight, a graduate of the London School of Economics (BSc) and Kellogg School of Management MBA.

8. NITIN KAPOOR – Board Member

Nitin has over 20 years of extensive experience combined with strong commercial awareness and business leadership skills across Finance, HealthCare and Pharmaceutical industries. Nitin joined AstraZeneca UK in 2011 and led several strategic Global and Regional roles to drive commercial model change and enhanced healthcare solutions with multiple markets across Asia-Pac, EMEA and the Americas.

Before moving to Vietnam in 2018, Nitin was based in Shanghai- China (2014- 2018) where he focused on expanding patient access, developing and deploying innovative healthcare solutions, led Strategy and Planning, Marketing and Sales Excellence, and Project Management Office. In his current role, Nitin is Company President for Vietnam & Frontier Markets (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka) and responsible for business, innovation, expansion and partnerships.

He is based with his family in Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam. Nitin holds a degree in commerce, MBA-International Trade and professional qualifications in Six Sigma, Oncology Master Class-Gustave Roussy France, Avaya-CRM, COPC, Script Writing, eRelationship Marketing, Project Management and Digital Marketing by Square-Google.


9  . RICHARD LEECH – Board Member                                                                                                                              

Richard hails from Warwickshire in the UK and is currently Executive and Managing Director of Advantage Real Estate Services, based in HCMC. Richard has lived with his wife and three (updated from two since last year) children in Vietnam since 2003. Richard has been an active BBGV Board Member for the last 6 years and has focused his attention on fundraising via successful events such as the BBGV Fun Run and dispersing funds to worthy charities such as Blue Dragon, with the building of a new Kindergarden in a remote area 3 hours outside of Dien Bien Phu as well as two upgrades to the Huong La Disabled Centre in Bach Ninh. In the last 12 months with BBGV, Richard has served on the Events and Marcoms Sub Committees.

Over the last 30 years, Richard has been responsible for the development, leasing and management of many significant retail/commercial real estate projects in Southern Africa and more recently in South East Asia. He became a member of the Royal Institute for Chartered surveyors nine years ago and has served as Vietnam’s representative for the International Council of Shopping Centre’s. A seasoned speaker at numerous retail conferences and property market updates, Richard also trains brokerage and management teams on behalf of Clients in the Shopping Centre Industry.     

10. MATTHEW MARTIN – Board Member

Experienced Managing Director and C-level executive in banking technology and operations. Strategic thinker and visionary with track record of delivering organizational change and business development. Inspirational leader who has directed and developed senior leaders as well as operational teams to business excellence in emerging and developing markets. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills. Experienced and persuasive presenter and communicator with a calm but reassuring demeanor. An effective manager with the skills necessary to direct, train, and motivate staff to their fullest individual and team potential. Seasoned traveler, culturally fluent across South East Asia and the Middle East regions.

11. Chris Milliken – Board Member

Chris Milliken is an English-qualified senior associate in the Ho Chi Minh City office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He has been working in Vietnam since September 2017. Chris has a broad corporate and finance practice, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, financing and capital markets transactions, both in Vietnam and in Asia more generally. Chris has a wide client base, which includes both foreign investors and prestigious local firms, and has taken lead roles on a number of high-profile M&A transactions in a wide variety of sectors in Vietnam.

Prior to Vietnam, he worked at a Magic Circle firm in London and in Hong Kong from 2012 to 2017.

Chris has been an active member of the BBGV since arriving in Vietnam and is also a member of the Capital Markets Committee of the Vietnam Business Forum. He is interested in the promotion of British business in Vietnam and
the fostering of valuable ties between the two countries. He believes the BBGV provides an invaluable opportunity to connect with other Brits working in Vietnam as well as business leaders and other like-minded people. Chris is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and is registered as a foreign legal practitioner with the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice. He is a British citizen and holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge. Outside of work, he enjoys, among other things, exploring Vietnam and south east Asia more generally.

12. ANTHONY ROWLANDS – Board Member

The Principal of BIS HCMC, Mr. Anthony Rowlands, was born and educated in the UK. He graduated from the University of Wales with both a Certificate and Diploma in Primary Education and was later awarded a Master’s Degree in School Leadership from The Queensland University of Technology, Australia.

Anthony started his teaching career in the UK in 1979 and taught there for 13 years including six years as a Head Teacher before moving to international education in 1992. He then held senior leadership positions in three FOBISIA schools:  firstly at St. Christopher’s International School in Penang, then at the British International School, Jakarta and Harrow International School in Bangkok. In April 2012 Anthony became Founding Principal of BIS Hanoi before moving to become Principal of BIS HCMC in August 2017.

13. MARK SAYER (MA Cantab) – Board Member

Mark is the Founding Principal of The British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi.  He arrived in Vietnam in April 2013 with the school opening in August of the same year.  He is widely experienced in education and educational management and leadership, having had a previous headship in the UK from 2008.  His experience ranges from Early Years to High School (students aged 2 to 18).

Prior to embarking on a career in education, Mark had careers in accountancy, marketing advertising, business development: skills which are of great value now in the delivery of outstanding education for students in Hanoi.

His current staff team is over 230 strong and he specializes in professional development, curriculum planning, finance, marketing and branding.

14. COLIN TERRY – Board Member

Colin Terry has been living and working in Asia for almost 30 years and joined the Jardine Matheson Group in 1992. He has held a number of different financial and executive board level leadership roles within Jardines across a range of industries, including insurance, technology and manufacturing, and he is currently the Finance Director of Siam City Cement (Vietnam) Ltd. He has also previously served for several years as an advisor to a charitable organization.
Colin is originally from England, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is based in Ho Chi Minh city.
