Vietnam economy reached 2017 with a growth rate of 6.81%. However, there are a lot of difficulties and challenges that require the business community to invest more efforts to remain the impressive growth in 2018, especially with the unpredictable changes in both micro and macro situation. 

Join us on the Outlook for 2018 Business Luncheon, sponsored by ACSV Legal Vietnam will cover 3 different perspectives including Legal, Finance and Tax with 3 speakers:

1/ Ms Elaine Chew – Senior Associate of ACSV Legal Vietnam

Elaine Chew is a Malaysian qualified lawyer and currently a senior associate of ACSV Legal Vietnam. Prior to joining ACSV Legal, Elaine worked at international law firms in Malaysia and Vietnam. She has experience dealing with both local and international corporations in private equity transactions, M&A, real estate and retail development projects in a broad range of sectors, such as hospitality and tourism, food and beverage, retail, fintech, education, fitness and healthcare.

2/ Mr Pham Hong Hai – CEO of HSBC Vietnam

Pham Hong Hai became the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Vietnam on 1 December 2014. He is the first ever Vietnamese person to head operations at HSBC Vietnam and a well-known and respected figure in the country’s banking and finance sector.

Hai’s local insights and international banking expertise mean he is perfectly suited to not only promote Vietnam across global markets and provide foreign investors with invaluable support in Vietnam but also to assist Vietnamese corporations who have ambitions to expand internationally.

Hai became the first Vietnamese national to be appointed head of Global Markets at HSBC Vietnam in 2004 and head of Global Banking and Markets (GB&M) in 2012. Under his leadership, GB&M developed into one of the largest and most highly-regarded franchises among foreign banks in Vietnam, assisting to facilitate numerous major deals, such as closing the first local currency cross currency swap in Vietnam in 2004, advising a  top State-owned bank to execute its first international bond issuance in 2012, and most recently, acting as the Joint Lead Manager and Joint Book Runner to issue $1 billion Vietnam sovereign bonds in 2014.

Hai holds a Professional Diploma in Financial Services from the Institute of Financial Services in the UK and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City.

3/ Mr Richard J. Irwin – Partner/Chairman of PwC Vietnam

Richard Irwin is a partner in the Tax and Legal Services division of PricewaterhouseCoopers and is Chairman of the Vietnam firm.

He has more than 28 years of professional experience, including 6 years in the UK, where he worked in the financial services practice of a Big 4 firm. He has worked in Vietnam and the region since 1995, and has advised many of the major foreign investors in Vietnam on structuring their operations, and complying with the regulatory & tax framework. He specialises in M&A and has advised on numerous transactions both in Vietnam and the region, leading legal and tax due diligence reviews.

Richard was admitted as a PwC partner in 1999.

From 2005 to 2010 Richard was based in PwC’s Bangkok office M&A practice.

Richard holds a Bachelors degree in Economics, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in Vietnam.
