About us:
The UK has had a diplomatic presence in Hanoi, capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, for over 60 years. We opened a consulate in Hanoi in 1946, which was upgraded to a consulate-general in 1954. It remained open throughout the war (at the same time, a British Embassy was also open in what was then Saigon, capital of South Vietnam). Following the establishment of full diplomatic relations in 1973, our consulate-general in Hanoi was upgraded to an embassy. The embassy grew substantially in the mid-1990s to meet the growing demand of the enhanced relationship.

The British Embassy in Hanoi works to develop and sustain the important and long-standing relationship between the UK and Vietnam. This involves dealing with a wide range of political, commercial, security and economic interest between the UK and Vietnam.

How we can help:
Political Section promotes bilateral political and economic relations between the UK and Vietnam. Our works closely with the Vietnamese government to progress issues of mutual concern, including international political and economic developments and human rights.

UK Trade & Investment is the Government organisation that helps UK based companies succeed in international markets through missions, seminars, trade shows, research and ongoing advice. UKTI fosters positive bilateral trade and investment conditions through its contacts with the Vietnamese Government.
We also assist foreign companies to bring high quality investment to the UK's vibrant economy.

The Migration and Organised Crime Team, sitting within the Political Section, is tasked specifically to further develop the relationships between UK and Vietnamese migration and law enforcement agencies, in order to reduce the harm done to the UK by Vietnamese illegal migration and criminality.

Consular Section is there to assist British Nationals by offering a wide variety of services. We offer documentary services such as obtaining a new British passport, and provide mergency assistance and protection services for British Nationals, including contacting you if you are in hospital and helping you to transfer funds from friends and family if necessary. We ask all British Nationals to register with us via the registration database Locate.

Visa Section deals with Visas for the UK for work, study or tourism for Vietnamese Nationals. Each visa category has different requirements and on top of the visa application form and fee, certain supplementary documents are also required. For more information on the process or on how to put an application together, please check out the visa pages of the website.

The Management Section is responsible for the day to day management of the Embassy's human, financial and material resources in order for the Embassy to conduct its business activities as efficiently and effectively as possible.
