British Business Group Vietnam

The British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV) is one of the leading Business Groups in Vietnam and was one of the first three to be licensed by the Vietnamese authorities in 1998. The group currently has over 280 members nationwide. Broad objectives cover a range of members’ interests – including promoting British interests in Vietnam, liaising with Government officials and organising social and charitable events. The group also now plays a role in the Britain in Asia Pacific Group of regional British Chambers offering members in Vietnam reciprocal benefits when they travel.

The BBGV works closely with the Embassy and the Consulate General and also has good contacts with UK Trade International. BBGV in Hanoi also works closely with Eurocham including the hosting of joint functions.

Past highlights of activities in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have included business functions with distinguished guests such as: The Princess Royal, The Right Honourable John Prescott, Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Alan Johnson, MP Minister of the Department of Trade & Industry; Mr Richard Caborn, Minister of Sport; Mr Michael Oliver, the Lord Mayor of the City of London. Social events include the popular Garden Suppers, British pub nights, and the annual Fun Run which attracts around 3000 participants while raising money for charity.

Through the creation of a high quality newsletter and web-site we are able to keep members updated on activities and changes both within the BBGV and Vietnam.

The BBGV’s primary aim is to cater for the needs of members, respond to the changing environment and to the ever changing needs of the British community in Vietnam. The BBGV is also an active participant in the Vietnam Business Forum. The Vietnam Business Forum acts as a vehicle for dialogue between groups such as; the Banking Group and the Manufacturing & Distribution Group to bring their concerns to the relevant authorities and has proven to be a valuable forum for open dialogue.

The policies and supervision of the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City chapters are set by Chapter Committees, which comprise volunteers from the British Business Community elected by Members of each Chapter. The day to day operations and management are carried out in Hanoi through the Eurocham Secretariat and in HCMC through the BBGV Secretariat which is managed by an Executive Director.

As a non profit organisation, the BBGV depends on the financial support of total membership, those members who actively participate in events and those who give their time to serve on the committees. As the respective Chairpersons we thank all members for their support in the past and look forward to a stronger and even more pro-active group.
