Vietnam has emerged as an important oil and natural gas, and energy producer in Southeast Asia. The country has boosted its exploration activities, allowed for greater foreign company investment and cooperation in the oil and gas sector, and introduced market reforms to support the energy industry. The country’s rapid economic growth, industrialization, and export market expansion have spurred domestic energy consumption too.
The EIC Data Stream has identified over US$93 billion of energy projects underway or planned, with power being the top contributor to the numbers at US$46 billion, followed by oil and gas at US$41 billion. Recent opportunities and initiatives in Vietnam have arisen from the National Power Development Plan (PDP).
