On the 9th of January 2018, BBGV Executive Director, Peter Rimmer represented BBGV at a business dialogue between the Ho Chi Minh CIty People’s Committee and several chambers, led by EuroCham and included the presence of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Key challenges in environment and the need for improved waste transfer and management were recognised by Chairman Phong, including the need to produce clean energy being integrated into the provision of new buildings. Other items discussed are the development of HCMC into a Smart City and the opportunities that could be provided via PPP and HiTec developments.
Chairman Phong also outlined some of the current plans being implemented and challenges Ho Chi Minh CIty is facing, for example, the need for an improved public transportation system. For the Smart Cities project, Ho Chi Minh City’s current consideration includes the provision of data, cyber, assimilation and operations centres. Key areas for future cooperation with foreign companies such as Engineering, ICT, Food Processing, Urban Transportation, Banking and Environmental Protection are the opportunities for UK businesses.
Following the informative meeting, BBGV and the British Consulate General are working with the Ho Chi Minh City’s People Committee to establish another dialogue between the British business community in Vietnam and the related Vietnamese departments, with regards to any difficulty and concern that British business is experiencing in Vietnam. Tax, custom and business registration are expected to be the key topics. Stay tuned for more update!
